2,6 billions EUR of bilateral trade in 2009

France and Malaysia are long-time trade partners and for about ten years now trade balance is in Malaysia’s favour. However, trade between the two countries was balanced in 2009 and reached 2.6 billions EUR (a 23% decrease compared to 2008). Malaysia is France third commercial partner in ASEAN, behind Singapore and Thailand. Equipment, electric and electronic components account for 40% of the exchanges between the two countries (a great part of which is due to internal echanges between STMicroelectronics and its Malaysian factory).

Main items of external trade (in 2009):

  • Export from Malaysia to France: mechanical equipment and electronic components (65% of total exports), refined products.
  • Export from France to Malaysia: aircrafts and helicopters (49% of total exports), electronic and electric equipment (14.6%), wines and spirits, steel-industry products, automotive equipment.
