Contribution to Malaysia

Alcatel-Lucent has contributed towards building Malaysia’s advanced
telecom
infrastructure through the supply of both fixed and mobile network
infrastructure to the country’s leading telecommunication operators. It
is also actively participating in activities under the country’s
Multimedia Super Corridor (MSD) project. Alcatel-Lucent's President for
Asia Pacific, Frederic Rose, sits as a member in the MSC International
Advisory Panel, which is chaired by the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

In April 2001, Alcatel established
its Multimedia Laboratory in the Multimedia University, in Cyberjaya.
The laboratory enables students and researchers to access
state-of-the-art facilities for learning and research, especially in the
areas of multimedia and network technologies such as Asynchronous
Transfer Mode (ATM). Since 1998, Alcatel has seconded lecturers from its
Alcatel University to the Multimedia University under its Visiting Staff
Programme. In addition to teaching full-time courses at both
undergraduate and graduate level, the lecturers also supervise research
projects and develop new curriculum in multimedia and telecommunications.
