Book Launch: “L’Asie du Sud-Est 2019 – Bilan, enjeux et perspectives”

On the 24th June 2019, CCIFM organised a book launch for the new co-written publication of IRASEC (Institut de Recherche sur l’Asie du Sud-Est Contemporaine) in collaboration with Alliance Française’s “French Talk” of the month on Pencak Silat.

The talk on Pencak Silat was conducted by Gabriel Facal is an Anthropologist, associated to Centre de recherches sur l’Asie du Sud-Est (CASE, Paris) and Institut de recherches Asiatiques (Irasia, Marseille).

David Delfolie, one of the contributors for the book, presented in a few words about the new edition and more precisely the topics discussed in the chapter about Malaysia. “L’Asie du Sud-Est 2019” provides a summary and detailed analysis of the main political, economic and social events that occurred in 2018 in each of the eleven countries of the region. The book also proposes thematic files that focuses on five topics dealt with at a regional level including: the new silk roads and Chinese investments and a situational analysis on the death penalty in Southeast Asia.

Mr. Delfolie is a researcher at l’IDHES-Paris 1 in sociology and a co-director of the “Institute Pondok Perancis” in Kuala Lumpur. He is also a professor in Science Po Lille and a member of the editorial office of the magazine “Dynamiques Internationales”.

The book launch was followed by a cocktail that gave the opportunity for the audience to discuss more with the speakers.
