Morning Talk: Reform Malaysia Data Protection Laws

CCIFM organized a  Morning Talk on the Reform of Malaysia's Data Protection Laws, in collaboration with CCIFM Member Luther Services, to discuss the alignment of Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) with international standards and its implications for businesses operating in the country.

The session provided valuable insights into the importance of compliance and highlighted the common oversights businesses make regarding data protection. The discussion covered key topics, including the details of the PDPA amendments, the significance of cross-border transfers of personal data, and the extraterritorial application of the law, helping attendees understand how these changes will impact their operations.

The talk also focused on the steps businesses should take to prepare for the impending Amendment Bill’s enforcement. Experts from Luther Services walked participants through the essential changes and provided guidance on how organizations can ensure they meet the new requirements. The event emphasized the critical need for businesses to adopt robust data protection practices, ensuring they are not only compliant with Malaysian regulations but also aligned with global standards to safeguard personal data and mitigate potential risks
