Séminaire De Réflexion 2024

CCI France Malaysia organized its annual Séminaire de Réflexion on 14 & 15 March in Cyberjaya, in partnership of the French Embassy and CCE Malaisie (Les conseillers du Commerce extérieur de la France). The event provided an update on Malaysia's political and economic climate, as well as information on other key topics impacting members in 2024.

For this 24th edition, the Séminaire de Réflexion 2024 commenced by CCIFM President Richard Fostier, welcoming over 80 participants to the annual seminar. H.E. Axel Cruau, the French Ambassador to Malaysia, then gave a thought-provoking keynote address on bilateral trade and relations. Brian Yap, Senior Associate, and Megan Ooi, Associate, from Vriens & Partners gave an update on Malaysian domestic politics. 

This was followed by an introduction of the French business ecosystem in Malaysia by Bruno Le Moing of CCE Malaisie, Paul de Oliveria of Business France, and Abdou Sairi from  La French Tech. Elisabeth Laubel gave the results of a recent study commissioned by CCIFM in partnership with the Embassy's economic department on the French economic presence, providing a comprehensive overview and illustrating the seminar's avenues for reflection.

Subsequently, a Dialogue session was held with Mr. Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). The session delved deep into the latest insights and trends in industry and investment and provided an engaging platform for French companies to interact with MIDA and understand the government’s vision for the nation and the future role and contribution of French investors. 

CCIFM Members Air Liquide, Safran Landing System, and Pen Aviation shared their testimonials conducting business in Malaysia. Following that, Natixis Senior Economist Trinh Nguyen gave an update on the economic situation of Malaysia in the ASEAN and global context and Taylor’s University Professor Dr Ong Kian Ming delivered an update on the Malaysian economy its recent developments and future prospects. Additionally, Alexis Wan Ullok, CCIFM Regional Correspondent Representative for Sarawak, highlighted on business opportunities for French companies in Sarawak.

Other key topics include unlocking the potential of artificial intelligence in everyday business by Quentin Desclous, AI Lead of Onepoint APAC, the best ESG practices for organizations to adopt by Micole Goh, Principal of Ipsos Strategy3, the implementation of e-invoicing by Senthuran Elalingam, Indirect Tax Partner of Deloitte, and empowering businesses with LHDN compliance made easy by Clement Loh, CEO of Finexus.

Lastly, the networking "Buka Puasa" dinner gave participants the opportunity to mingle with several Malaysian agencies such as the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), Invest Kedah, Invest Sabah, Invest Selangor, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Small and Medium Enterprises Association Malaysia (SAMENTA), TalentCorp and Tourism Malaysia.
