Economic Outlook

Co organised with Swiss Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (SMCC) and La Camara

On 21st February, CCIFM alongside with Swiss Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (SMCC) and La Camara co-organized a talk on the Economic Outlook  for 2023 at Hilti IT Services. We gathered about 50 participants in total for this talk.

Dr. Anthony Dass, Group Chief Economist/Head of Research, AmBank spoke and shared his view on the outlook for the global economy in 2023. His view is that the outlook for the global economy in 2023 will vary depending on where we are. Recession risk remains high in the US, UK, and Europe. In this context, the Asia Pacific (APAC) region would likely lose some steam amid a challenging global backdrop.

He mentioned, the Asia Pacific region would avoid a recession. Countries such as South Korea, Australia and New Zealand will be weighed by rising interest rates. The Philippines, Vietnam, India, Indonesia and Malaysia will see growth ease in 2023 compared to 2022. China will be the exception – its economy is expected to pick up following the easing of its zero-COVID policy.

As an interesting topic to our participants, the session ended with a Q&A and followed by a networking session over Malaysian lunch.
