VJ Engineering at the ASEAN Conference on Combatting Plastic Pollution 2025: All Hands on Deck for a Sustainable Plastics Future

The ASEAN Conference on Combatting Plastic Pollution 2025, themed “All Hands on Deck: Uniting Forces for a Sustainable Plastics Future”, represents a critical milestone in regional cooperation to address one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our era. Organized with the support of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), the conference builds on ASEAN’s consistent efforts to implement collaborative frameworks that reduce marine litter and promote circular economy principles. ERIA has played a central role in driving evidence-based policies and knowledge sharing within ASEAN, notably through its Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris (RKC-MPD), which has supported governments in shaping effective waste management strategies and regional action plans.

Previous ASEAN-led events and frameworks have already demonstrated measurable progress. The ASEAN Regional Action Plan for Combating Marine Debris (2021–2025) provided concrete steps for countries to strengthen waste governance, invest in innovation, and foster cross-sectoral partnerships. This year’s conference in Kuala Lumpur is set to build on that foundation, uniting governments, businesses, researchers, and civil society to accelerate scalable solutions against plastic pollution.

VJ Engineering Solutions Sdn. Bhd. is honored to have received an official invitation from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), Malaysia to participate in the ASEAN Conference on Combatting Plastic Pollution 2025. This recognition underscores the company’s role as a trusted environmental solutions provider and its alignment with Malaysia’s broader national agenda in tackling plastic waste and promoting sustainability. The invitation reflects confidence in VJ Engineering’s technological capabilities and its long-standing contributions to marine litter and oil spill response solutions.

As a Malaysian-based environmental and engineering solutions provider with a regional presence in Singapore, VJ Engineering has long anchored its vision on safeguarding ecosystems while providing practical solutions to industrial and societal challenges. The company’s mission is built on three guiding principles: delivering high-quality engineering solutions, advancing sustainable practices, and embedding corporate responsibility in every aspect of its operations.

Strengthening its credibility in the international arena, VJ Engineering is a member of the Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML) under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)—the premier global network dedicated to advancing solutions that reduce and eliminate marine litter in oceans worldwide. Adding to this distinction, both company directors are the only representatives in Malaysia to have completed UNEP’s Marine Litter Leadership and Marine Litter Expert courses, demonstrating their personal and professional commitment to driving global best practices in marine litter reduction.

For more than two decades, VJ Engineering has been at the forefront of environmental protection, delivering equipment and technologies that address both oil spill response and plastic pollution in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Its participation at the ASEAN Conference 2025 is a continuation of its commitment to uniting technological innovation with community-driven action to achieve long-term sustainability.

VJ Engineering delivers a comprehensive range of international technologies that address plastic pollution from upstream waterways to offshore environments. EFINOR Sea Cleaner’s WasteCleaner and MultiCleaner vessels employ patented Double Flow Technology to collect plastics, hydrocarbons, algae, and debris, while also supporting functions such as firefighting and towing. Complementing this is the latest innovation from EFINOR, the Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) Maritime Drone, a modular, remotely operated system designed for offshore decontamination, boom deployment, and removal of up to 500 kg of solid waste per mission, which will be available in the market by early 2026.

For inland waterways, UWT Swiss’s mobile river desludging system restores canals and rivers by separating and dewatering sludge, sand, and submerged plastics, returning only clean water to the ecosystem. In sensitive wetlands and urban water bodies, the TRUXOR T-Series amphibious machines operate seamlessly on land and water, equipped with tools for debris collection, aquatic vegetation control, dredging, and silt pumping.

To intercept plastics before they reach the sea, DESMI EnviRo-Care solutions include containment booms and automated litter traps such as the Enhancer and Rise series, which prevent leakage into oceans while supporting recycling initiatives, while StormX netting trash traps provide robust end-ofpipe interception, capturing pollutants as small as 5 mm even under heavy runoff conditions. For ports, lakes, and recreational areas, PORTBIN floating trash bins deliver a visible and efficient solution by continuously collecting surface debris.

Beyond technology, VJ Engineering emphasizes the social dimension of environmental protection through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework, Seeding the Future Programme, a community-based awareness initiative. Designed to tackle plastic pollution at its source, the programme embodies the principle of “Stop from the Root” by focusing on education, research, and citizen participation. Under this framework, VJ Engineering carries out marine debris field analysis in residential areas, chemical and litter studies in the Klang River, and contributes to citizen science through the Marine Debris Tracker project, supported by National Geographic. The company also engages the public through bilingual awareness videos creation, school and kindergarten awareness programmes in collaboration with The SeaCleaners, and Environmental Internship Programme for university students, ensuring knowledge transfer to future environmental leaders. Alongside these initiatives, VJ Engineering has pledged 1% for the Planet, directing a portion of its revenue to global conservation, while maintaining partnerships in wildlife protection and biodiversity campaigns. Together, these integrated actions reinforce the company’s belief that combating plastic pollution requires not only advanced technology but also widespread awareness, shared responsibility, and ethical values across all levels of society.

VJ Engineering’s participation in the ASEAN Conference on Combatting Plastic Pollution 2025, highlights its dual role as both a provider of advanced solutions and an advocate for environmental responsibility. The company stands in solidarity with ASEAN and ERIA’s mission, recognizing that sustainable progress depends on collective action across borders, industries, and communities.

By integrating technology, education, and CSR-driven impact, VJ Engineering exemplifies how private sector players can drive regional efforts toward a plastic-free future. Together, these solutions showcase VJ Engineering’s ability to provide multi-scale interventions across rivers, lakes, ports, and offshore waters, ensuring plastic pollution is intercepted at every stage of its journey from land to sea.
