EVOLEN Energy Mission to Malaysia 2026: Strengthening France–Malaysia Energy Cooperation

CCI France Malaysia, in partnership with EVOLEN, welcomed a delegation of French energy companies to Malaysia from 1 to 4 September 2026 for a four-day business mission focused on exploring opportunities across Malaysia’s dynamic energy sector and strengthening France–Malaysia industrial cooperation.

Bringing together French companies, Malaysian energy players, government representatives and key industry stakeholders, the mission provided an opportunity for the participating companies to better understand the Malaysian market, develop local partnerships and explore opportunities across the oil and gas, energy transition, engineering, industrial services and maritime sectors.

A week of business meetings and industry engagement
The EVOLEN mission officially began with a Malaysia–France Energy Networking Reception at the Residence of France in Kuala Lumpur, hosted by H.E. Mr. Marc Abensour, Ambassador of France to Malaysia and sponsored by IEC Telecom. The reception brought together the EVOLEN delegation with senior representatives from Malaysia’s energy ecosystem, French companies established in Malaysia, government representatives and key industry stakeholders.

The event was also honoured by the presence of YB Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), highlighting the importance of continued Malaysia–France cooperation in the energy sector. The reception served as the kick-off to an intensive programme of meetings and business engagements throughout the week, giving the delegation the opportunity to connect with major industry players and institutional stakeholders, including Technip Energies, TotalEnergies, the Ministry of Economy, PETRA, MOGSC, MOGEC, MPRC and many other organisations across Malaysia's energy ecosystem.

Connecting French expertise with Malaysia's energy ecosystem
A key objective of the mission was to provide the participating companies with direct exposure to Malaysia's energy market and its key decision-makers. The programme combined institutional discussions, industry meetings, networking opportunities and participation in OGA 2026, one of the region's leading oil and gas events. Through these engagements, the delegation gained insights into Malaysia's energy priorities, ongoing projects, procurement opportunities and the evolving landscape of the country's energy transition. The programme also created opportunities for the French companies to present their expertise directly to potential Malaysian partners and explore avenues for commercial cooperation, partnerships and longer-term market development.

Eight French companies exploring opportunities in Malaysia
The EVOLEN delegation brought together eight French companies with complementary expertise and ambitions to develop their presence in Malaysia and the wider Southeast Asian market:

  • Barriquand Heat Exchangers – heat exchange solutions and industrial equipment

  • Celestal SAS – engineering and industrial expertise

  • REP – industrial and technical solutions

  • Principia – engineering and technical consulting

  • SNECI – industrial performance and supply-chain solutions

  • Holis Group – energy and industrial expertise

  • Pen&Process – engineering and process expertise

  • SeaOwl – maritime and offshore energy services

  • SPIE – technical services and solutions for energy and industrial markets

Together, these companies represent a broad range of French know-how relevant to Malaysia's energy and industrial development.
For many of the participants, the mission was an opportunity not only to identify immediate business opportunities, but also to assess Malaysia's potential as a regional hub for Southeast Asia.

Dialogue with Malaysian policymakers
The mission also included a dedicated Energy Sector Dialogue with the Ministry of Economy and PETRA, organised by CCI France Malaysia.
The session provided the EVOLEN delegation and selected members of the French business community with an opportunity to exchange directly with Malaysian policymakers on key developments affecting the energy sector.
Discussions covered areas including:

  • Oil and gas: industry outlook, investment opportunities and challenges

  • Energy transition: opportunities and challenges linked to Malaysia's transition towards a lower-carbon energy system

  • Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS): Malaysia's potential to develop as a regional CCUS hub, including regulatory, commercial and infrastructure considerations

The dialogue provided valuable insight into Malaysia's policy priorities while allowing French companies already active in the market to share their perspectives and business challenges.

OGA 2026: A strategic platform for business development
Participation in OGA 2026 was another key component of the mission. The exhibition provided the French delegation with direct access to a broad cross-section of Malaysia's oil and gas and energy ecosystem, including operators, EPC companies, suppliers, technology providers and other industry stakeholders. For the participating companies, OGA offered an effective platform to identify potential partners, meet prospective clients and gain a better understanding of the competitive landscape in Malaysia and the region. Combined with the targeted meetings organised throughout the week, the exhibition helped transform the mission from a market-discovery exercise into a concrete business development and networking programme.

Strengthening the France–Malaysia energy partnership
The mission highlighted the strong complementarity between French energy expertise and Malaysia's ambitions for continued industrial development and energy transition. It also demonstrated the value of bringing together companies, industry organisations, government stakeholders and the broader French business community around targeted sector opportunities. CCI France Malaysia was pleased to support EVOLEN in facilitating this engagement and connecting the French delegation with relevant Malaysian stakeholders throughout the programme. The collaboration also builds on the growing interest among French companies in using Malaysia as a platform to develop their activities across ASEAN, benefiting from the country's established industrial base, infrastructure and strategic regional position.

Looking ahead
The EVOLEN Energy Mission 2026 marked an important step in strengthening business links between the French and Malaysian energy ecosystems. Beyond the meetings held during the four-day programme, the mission created a foundation for continued discussions, partnerships and commercial opportunities between participating companies and Malaysian stakeholders. CCI France Malaysia looks forward to building on the momentum generated during the mission and continuing to support French companies seeking to enter, develop and expand their activities in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.
