The Malaysian economy recorded a sustained growth in 2018 supported by resilient private sector activity and complemented by exports. Continued expansion in income and employment provided key support to household spending. On the supply side, despite lingering commodity-specific supply shocks, the overall growth was mitigated by services and manufacturing sectors. In 2019, growth is expected to grow modestly largely due to softer external demand amid public sector rationalization. On the note, the Malaysian economy is expected to grow at 4.5% this year.
Mr Dass has been working for more than 25 years, started his career with Bank Negara Malaysia as an Economist and then as a Senior Economist. Thereafter, he worked with several stock broking firms as Chief Economist and Head of Research. Currently, Mr Dass is the Group Chief Economist, AmBank.
He work closely with the various Ministries and Government Agencies and sits in the Advisory Panel of Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) a subsidiary of MITI. He did a special project for the United Nations, under the United Nations Development Program for the Government of United Arab Emirates.
Mr Dass hold a Doctorate degree in Economics from University Utara Malaysia and Master of Science in Economics & Finance from University of Bristol, United Kingdom and the Bachelor’s degree from the International Islamic University, Malaysia in the area of Economics. He is an Adjunct Professor for the Faculty of Economics, University of New England Australia.
