Key changes that will come into force, effective 1 January 2023

 

Pursuant to the Malaysian Employment (Amendment) Act 2022, significant amendments to the Employment Act 1955 will come into force, effective 1 January 2023.

It will undergo major changes including longer maternity and paternity leave, enhanced protection from discrimination, a statutory right for employees to request a flexible working arrangement and much more.

The government has also confirmed that the Employment Act 1955 will now apply to all employees, whereas previously it only restricted to those earning up to a certain monthly amount, or certain categories of employees.
