In this Morning Talk, our guest speakers will unpack what the system really means for organisations, in their day to day application.

With Malaysia’s stamp duty regime shifting from official assessment to self assessment on 1 January 2026, businesses now face a significant change in how they review, classify, and stamp documents. After operating under an official assessment system since 1949, this transition marks a major shift in compliance responsibility.

In this Morning Talk, our guest speakers Ms. Maike Rohwer and Mr. Lukas Kirchhof from Luther Corporate Services will unpack what the new self assessment system really means for organisations, beyond the legislation and into day to day application.

This session clarifies how the new rules work, where common pitfalls arise, and what businesses must do to ensure timely and accurate stamping under the Stamp Act 1949. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the new requirements, practical steps to strengthen internal processes, and greater confidence in navigating the transition.

By the end of this session, participants will:
• Understand what qualifies as a stampable instrument under the Stamp Act 1949.
• Learn how to correctly categorize dutiable instruments.
• Know who is responsible for filing and paying stamp duty under the new regime.
• Identify which instruments are subject to self assessment from 1 January 2026 and which will follow in later phases.
• Gain practical insight into how the new digital portal works and what internal changes may be required.

This session is ideal for:
• Business owners and decision makers handling contracts and agreements.
• Contract managers, trade agents, and authorised representatives involved in signing or administering agreements.
• Finance, tax, legal, and compliance managers.
• HR professionals.
• Anyone responsible for drafting, reviewing, or managing stampable documents.
