Dear members & friends,

" SBC Aims to initiate intensive biotech based research & development on the Sarawak's biological resources "

The Sarawak State Government enacted the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre Ordinance 1997 and set up the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) the following year to initiate programmes for the conservation, utilization, protection and sustainable development of biodiversity in the State.

The Centre is entrusted to initiate intensive biotech based research and development on the State’s biological resources – particularly those that have been utilized by indigenous communities and to facilitate the documentation of the fast disappearing traditional knowledge of indigenous communities on the utilization of biological resources.

This presentation will showcase SBC’s R&D focus on meaningful collaborations and projects in creating a value chain from the traditional knowledge of the ethnic communities in Sarawak to bio-products to ensure benefit sharing with the communities. This is in line with the objective of the Convention of Biological Diversity on fair and equitable sharing of benefits.
