Update on Malaysia Renewable Energy Framework

Speaker : Mr. Arnaud Ayral, Regional Business Development Director, Cleantech Solar

With the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) for Solar PV coming to an end, the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia together with Malaysia Energy Commission has rolled out the net energy metering (NEM) scheme for the corporate sector, an incentive by the government to promote the growth of renewable energy (RE) in the country.

Our speaker, Arnaud Ayral from Cleantech Solar explained how companies in Malaysia not only can now self-generate renewable energy from onsite solar PV systems but NEM allows them to sell the potential excess energy back to the grid. This means corporate consumers can now contribute to clean energy production and at the same time reduce their cost base, with solar PV being today significantly cheaper than grid energy in Malaysia.

Additionally, he also shared case studies of companies like Ayam Brand, Coca-Cola, Kellogg, Schneider Electric and Cognizant adopting solar-as-a-service in Malaysia as well as in the wider Asia region and find out how the new Malaysia framework can benefit companies' operations.
