The Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change, YB Yeo Bee Yin was the keynote speaker at a VIP Luncheon jointly organized with the EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and other EU bi-lateral chambers.
YB Yeo Bee Yin touched on the Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto, that pledged to increase renewable energy from the current 2% to 20% by 2025. Besides that, she also emphasized on efforts to reduce the dependency on coal-fired power plants, which is one of the power generation methods that has a serious impact on CO2 emissions. Hence, there were discussion on main policies, strategies and initiatives taken by the Malaysian government on renewable energy.
The ultimate goal for the ministry was to develop a new energy industry centered around renewable energy and able to provide “affordable, reliable, sustainable and long term energy” for Malaysia.
