Business Opportunities in Malaysia
A Constantly Growing Economy
A dynamic economy driven by investment and innovation
Malaysia is now one of the most dynamic economies in Southeast Asia and serves as a strategic platform for companies looking to expand their operations across ASEAN. In 2025, the country recorded a historic MYR 426.7 billion in approved investments, representing an 11% increase compared with the previous year, with nearly 245,000 jobs created. This performance reflects the confidence of international investors and the country's ability to attract high value-added industrial and technological projects.
This momentum is supported by the government's key economic initiatives, including the MADANI Economy, the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), and the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), all of which strengthen the country's competitiveness, energy transition and industrial innovation.
Attractiveness For Investors
A Modern Economic Environment
Malaysia's open economy, stable regulatory framework and investment-friendly policies have established the country as one of the region's leading industrial and export bases. Malaysia is also experiencing strong growth in the digital economy, data centres, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, attracting investments from major international companies and reinforcing its position as a regional technology hub.
High-Quality Infrastructure
For several decades, Malaysia has continuously invested in infrastructure to support its economic growth. Today, the country benefits from a modern network of transport infrastructure, international ports and airports, complemented by 5G coverage reaching more than 80% of populated areas. Major infrastructure projects, such as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and the RTS Link connecting Johor and Singapore, further strengthen the country's logistics connectivity.
A Skilled Workforce
Malaysia benefits from a young, skilled and predominantly English-speaking workforce. Local universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes meet the needs of industrial and technology sectors, while the country's business legal system, based on British Common Law, facilitates commercial relations with international companies.
A Recognised Quality of Life
As a multicultural and cosmopolitan destination, Malaysia offers an attractive living environment for investors and expatriates. Its competitive cost of living, high-quality healthcare infrastructure, safe environment, and the diversity of its Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures make the country a preferred destination to live, work and do business.
High value manufacturing
Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals
Malaysia is one of the world's leading players in the medical devices industry. Historically recognised for its production of medical gloves, the country has progressively specialised in the manufacture of high value-added medical equipment, including orthopaedic implants, cardiac pacemakers, diagnostic devices and medical imaging equipment. At the same time, the pharmaceutical industry continues to expand through the production of generic medicines, injectable products, biopharmaceuticals and vaccines, supported by a well-established regulatory framework and rapidly growing regional demand.
Electrical, Electronics and Semiconductors
The electrical and electronics industry is Malaysia's largest export sector, accounting for nearly 40% of the country's total exports. Malaysia plays a strategic role in the global semiconductor value chain, particularly in outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) activities, and is home to numerous international industry leaders, primarily located in Penang and Kulim. Supported by the National Semiconductor Strategy, the sector continues to attract investment in advanced technologies related to artificial intelligence, automotive applications and next-generation semiconductor components.
Automotive and Electric Mobility
The automotive industry remains a cornerstone of Malaysia's manufacturing sector and makes a significant contribution to the national economy. Following record vehicle sales in 2024, the industry is accelerating its transition towards electric mobility in line with the country's national energy transition policies. International manufacturers, alongside national brands Proton and Perodua, are developing new ranges of electric vehicles for the regional market.
Aerospace
Malaysia has established itself as one of Southeast Asia's leading aerospace hubs. The industry encompasses maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), aerospace component manufacturing, composite materials and engineering design. Supported by the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030, the sector is home to major international companies including Airbus, Boeing, Safran, GE Aerospace and Lufthansa Technik.
Chemicals and Petrochemicals
Malaysia's chemical industry includes one of the world's largest oleochemical sectors alongside a highly integrated petrochemical industry. The Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC), developed by PETRONAS in partnership with Saudi Aramco, is now one of Southeast Asia's leading petrochemical hubs. As part of the NIMP 2030, the sector continues to move up the value chain towards specialty chemicals and lower-carbon solutions.
