Le French Film Festival Returns to Malaysia this June

The French Film Festival 2022 (LFFF22) is set to offer an immersive experience through award-winning French films, gastronomical events and other cultural offerings.

This year, the festival looks forward to reaching a wider audience through multiculturalism and gender equality for women through movies and music.

This edition is presented by the Alliances Françaises in Kuala Lumpur and Penang as well as the Embassy of France in Malaysia, with the support of two main Gold Sponsors – Cartier and Martell – along with Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) as a long-standing collaborator and partner.

Ambassador of France to Malaysia, Roland Galharague, said Le French Festival was one of the most vibrant symbols of the solid relationship that has been built between France and Malaysia since 1957.

“After two years of absence, we are very happy to celebrate together this renewal of cultural life and to develop our collaborations with other local institutions,” said Penang Alliance Française director Priscille Lasémillante.

Kuala Lumpur Alliance Française director Violaine Dupic shared that Malaysia and France have always had good relations culturally.

“We are honoured to be able to organise the festival this year and play our part in contributing to the dialogue with Malaysians through our French cultural content.”

LFFF22 will present 21 French films and a kids’ interactive programme – Le Petit Festival – which has a line-up of free movie screenings and paid interactive sessions, such as storytelling.

LFFF22 is also offering a curated selection of 10 French movies under the theme “Bewitching Outsiders”.

“We will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival with an inclusive and hands-on programme, with activities for Malaysians of all ages.

“We are particularly excited to showcase how eclectic and unique French cinema still is nowadays.

“Let’s discover, taste, create and dream together and revive the festival,” said Kuala Lumpur Alliance Française cultural coordinator, Asma Manssouri.
