Morning Talk: The New Leadership Playbook - Engaging Gen Z & Millennials

The Morning Talk on 14th May 2025 at the CCIFM Business Center focused on how today’s leaders can engage and inspire Gen Z and Millennials in the evolving workplace. As these generations bring fresh energy, bold ideas, and a digital-first mindset, traditional leadership approaches are no longer enough. The session helped participants explore a new leadership playbook, one built on connection, purpose, and adaptability.

Led by Shawn D’Cotta, Head of Office at Cegos Asia Pacific, the talk blended real-life experiences, thought-provoking discussions, and practical strategies to help leaders better understand and motivate the younger workforce. Drawing on more than 15 years of leadership development and his background as a serial entrepreneur turned corporate leader, Shawn shared powerful insights on what truly resonates with Millennial and Gen Z employees.

As one of the youngest P&L leaders in the CEGOS Group and a millennial leader himself, Shawn illustrated how purpose-driven leadership, flexibility, digital communication, and inclusive culture are not just buzzwords, but essential elements of engagement and retention in today’s talent landscape. Participants also learned how recognition and personal growth are key drivers of performance for younger employees.

Throughout the interactive session, five essential expectations of Gen Z and Millennials were discussed:

- Purpose-driven leadership – Leading with vision and values that inspire.
- Flexibility and autonomy – Offering freedom in how and where work gets done.
- Digital communication – Embracing tools and channels Gen Z thrives in.
- Recognition and growth – Providing frequent feedback and opportunities for development.
- Collaborative and inclusive culture – Creating safe, diverse, and co-creative environments.

Shawn also reflected on his experience working closely with younger teams at Cegos and in start-ups, highlighting the importance of coaching, listening, and co-creating success with Gen Z and Millennials.

The Morning Talk left participants with renewed confidence to lead across generations, and a clear understanding of how to build trust, motivation, and high performance in today’s multi-generational workplace.
