Decathlon Opens its 1st Store in Malaysia

The official opening of the first Decathlon in Malaysia, took place today at 8Trium Tower, in Bandar Sri Damansara.

Over 100 guests were welcomed by Mr. Yves Claude, Asia CEO of Decathlon & Mr. Dong Meng, CEO of Decathlon Malaysia, in the presence of the two Guest of Honour, H.E Christophe Penot, French Ambassador in Malaysia and Datuk Zainal Amanshah, Chief Executive Officer of InvestKL.

The official opening was made with a shooting of basketball by, H.E Christophe Penot, French Ambassador in Malaysia accompanied by other VIPs.

Guests took part in an entertaining morning, with a live sport demonstration of Decathlon products by their own team, a tour of the outlet and walked away with their very own Quechua bag.

In 1976, DECATHLON open its first store near Lille France, its aim is to offer a wide range of sports in a self-service setting at low prices. With over 1,000 stores in over 30 nations, DECATHLON with their 70,000 staff constantly strives to make the pleasure and benefits of sport accessible to all.

DECATHLON launched its flagship stores in South-East Asia earlier this year, opening two stores in Singapore and nine in Thailand, the Malaysian store will be the first of 60 stores for the coming 10 years all over Malaysia.

Decathlon opened its doors to the Malaysian public on the 26th May 2016.The retailer’s flagship store covers some 2,539 sqm on ground floor, with more than 95,000 apparel, equipment and footwear products – from Quechua hiking, B’twin cycling, Tribord diving, Nabaiji swimming, Domoys fitness, Inesis golf to Artengo rackets sports equipment… and includes testing zones for cycling, hiking, fitness, golfing, scooter-riding and skateboarding, among others. Decathlon will organize every weekend different sports activities, inviting customers to experience thanks to its innovative products.

It will be a one-stop sport retail entertainment center, first of its kind in Malaysia and aims to provide sports for Malaysians at a competitive price.

The store in 8trium Damansara will be the first among 10 more outlets to be opened in the next 3 years. The 2nd store is expected to be opened by the end of the year in the south of KL.  Decathlon Malaysia expects to cooperate with real estate partners, aiming to open soon with its land acquisition stand-alone site, where customers and users can enjoy the sports experience on the playgrounds connected to the store.
