Economic Outlook & Post Budget 2025
BMCC, in collaboration with CCIFM, EY Malaysia, and the FIDE Forum, hosted the Economic Outlook & Post-Budget 2025 event at AICB, drawing nearly 100 participants for an in-depth exploration of Malaysia's economic landscape following the 2025 Budget announcement.
The event was graced by the keynote address from YBhg. Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican, Secretary General of the Treasury, Ministry of Finance Malaysia, who discussed the government’s commitment to advancing the Ekonomi MADANI agenda.
This included pursuing resolute reforms, eliminating bureaucratic inefficiencies, raising wages and incomes, and addressing the rising cost of living. The 2025 Budget emphasized economic recovery, innovation, and a fairer wealth distribution, ensuring fiscal responsibility while pushing forward Malaysia's long-term sustainable growth.
Following the keynote, a dynamic panel discussion titled "Economic Transformation in Action: Measuring Successes and Identifying the Path Forward" was moderated by Gary, with panelists Mr. Anthony Lo, CEO of BNP Paribas Malaysia, and Datin Shelina Razaly Wahi, Partner at Abdullah Chan & Co.
The discussion centered on macroeconomic trends, foreign direct investment (FDI), and domestic direct investment (DDI), along with Budget 2025’s proposals for investment incentives, supply chain resilience, and initiatives to boost digitalization. The panelists provided expert insights into key measures such as the new Investment Incentive Framework, strategic co-investment funds, and tax incentives for companies in high-value sectors, as well as the establishment of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JSSEZ).
They also addressed challenges in attracting investment and the impact of various policy changes, including the increase in minimum wage, mandatory EPF contributions for foreign workers, and the government's plans to expand Malaysia’s ESG practices through energy transition initiatives and carbon tax proposals.
The event concluded with a thoughtful discussion on how businesses can navigate the evolving economic environment and capitalize on the opportunities presented by Budget 2025.
