KLYP Morning Talk - How I built my team in Malaysia

The most important force driving a company is the employees, hence making good management an integral part for the success of all organisations.

For our Morning Talk series, we had Mr. Gilles Waeldin to give a talk on “How I built my Team in Malaysia”. For 8 years, Gilles managed a greenfield project in Malaysia for the setup of what is now the award winning and biggest manufacturing plant of Petzl (French manufacturer of safety and climbing equipment). Starting alone and finishing with a team of more than 150 employees, he had a unique opportunity to try to create a united group while tackling the multicultural and multigenerational challenges Malaysia offers.

He began his talk by explaining about a few useful frameworks like Lean Management and Belbin Teams Theory. Afterwards, he addressed the issues of Human Resource in the local Malaysian context and how to tackle them. Not only that, he also viewed these issues in terms of gender inequality and how he solves these problems.

In his closing speech, he reiterated the importance of instilling teamwork in employees and to adapt to the local contexts as his keys to making Petzl Malaysia so successful.

The event was organised by KL Young Professional Committee (KLPY)
